MINSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that he had sat down with Russian President Vladimir Putin for one-on-one talks on NATO during a summit of ex-Soviet republics in Tajikistan earlier in the day.

Leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States met for a one-day summit in Dushanbe.

Most of the talks focused on security, Lukashenko was quoted as saying in a statement by his press office.

"Even peaceful Belarus is always mindful of this, considering risks and challenges associated with actions of Western countries and NATO near our and [Russian] borders," he said.

The presidents also discussed the Ukraine conflict and rows over breakaway regions of Transnistria in Moldova and Nagorno-Karabakh in South Caucasus, Lukashenko said, adding that the nations needed to work together to end these crises once and for all.
