Russian Economic Ministry Says Discussing Next Steps on Russia-EU Energy Dispute at WTO

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) Russia's Economic Development Ministry is discussing the issue of further actions within the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the energy dispute between Russia and the European Union, ministry's trade negotiations department head Maksim Medvedkov told Sputnik in an interview.

Earlier in August, the WTO published a report on the dispute between Russia and the European Union over individual provisions of the EU energy policy. In particular, the WTO rejected most of Russia's claims concerning the alleged incompatibility of the EU's energy policy measures with the multilateral trade rules.

However, the panel ruled in favor of Russia's claims on suspected violations in Croatian, Hungarian and Lithuanian gas legislation and urged the European Union to amend the breaches.

"Gazprom is supplying gas, and it seems to be disappointed with the results. We are discussing the further steps," Medvedkov said, when asked whether he was satisfied with the WTO verdict on the dispute and whether Russia planned to partially appeal provisions of the report.
