Bolton Calls Israeli Strikes on Iranian Targets in Syria 'Act of Self-Defense'

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) US National Security Adviser John Bolton on Wednesday voiced support for Israeli strikes on Iranian targets on the territory of Syria, calling them "an act of self-defense."

"Every time Iran has brought missiles or other threatening weapons into Syria in recent months Israel struck those targets.

I think that's a legitimate act of self-defense on the part of Israel," Bolton said at a press conference in Jerusalem.

Bolton stressed that the US interests in Syria were to completely eliminate the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group's (banned in Russia) "territorial caliphate" and to deal with the presence of the Iranian forces on the Syrian territory.

In May, Israel hit dozens of Iranian targets in Syria after Iranian forces allegedly fired 20 rockets at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights.

Tehran has denied having military bases in Syria.
