Russian Helicopters Successfully Tests Ansat Chopper at 2-Mile Mountain Altitudes - CEO

The Russian Helicopters company successfully completed high-altitude tests of the multipurpose Ansat light helicopter, confirming the possibility of its operation in mountainous terrain at altitudes of up to 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles), the company said Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The Russian Helicopters company successfully completed high-altitude tests of the multipurpose Ansat light helicopter, confirming the possibility of its operation in mountainous terrain at altitudes of up to 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles), the company said Monday.

During the tests, the helicopter performed a series of flights near Bermamyt Plateau in Russias southern Karachay-Cherkessia region, including landing with simulated engine failure at altitudes of 2,000-2,500 meters. The previously confirmed altitude for Ansats take-off and landing was no more than 1,000 meters.

"We transfer all data on test results to Rosaviatsiya [the Federal Air Transport Agency] so that further changes were made to the certificate. Complex mountainous terrain is the condition in which helicopter operations are particularly in demand," Russian Helicopters CEO Andrey Boginsky said as quoted in the company statement.

Ansat, a multi-purpose light twin-engine turbine helicopter, can be used to carry goods and passengers, as well as for surveillance purposes, search and rescue missions, and medical evacuation.
