North Korea Confirms Appointment Of New Defense Minister - Reports

SEOUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Kim Jong Gwan, who previously served as a vice minister of North Korea's armed forces, was confirmed as the country's new defense minister by Pyongyang, state media reported on Wednesday.

According to the Korean Central news Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong Gwan replaced No Kwang Chol, who served as a defense minister for less than two years. KCNA mentioned the new defense minister's name in an article about a conference related to the environmental protection held on Tuesday.

Kim Jong Gwan was named an alternate member of the politburo during the ruling Workers' Party plenary session held in December, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency. The new defense minister headed a number of important construction projects in the past, including building tourism facilities on the country's east coast and a spa resort in the central South Pyongan province.
