Baldia Factory fire case: Factory owner says Rs250 million as extortion demanded

Karachi (Pakistan Point News / Online - 20th September, 2019) Factory owner in Baldia factory case while identifying key suspects in the case has made some sensational revelations.Special court of Anti- Terrorism (AT) Karachi took up the Baldia factory case for hearing on Friday.Statement of factory owner Arshad Bhaila has been recorded through Skype at Pakistani consulate in Dubai.Factory owner in his statement said that they were asked to give millions of rupees as extortion money to the Muttahida Quomi Movement (MQM).

He also identified Rehman Bhola, Zubair Charya, Rauf Siddiqui and other suspects; however he didn't identify two suspects.He said Mansoor had joined the factory in 2004 and on the same year, extortion money of MQM was started as Mansoor had settled the matters with MQM.MQM was paid extortion money from Rs 1.5 million to Rs 2.5 million.He said in 2005, factory general manager Mansoor had appointed Zubair alias Charya in factory finance department.

Zubair was the best friend of younger brother of Asghar Baig, Baldia sector Incharge.Mansoor had made MQM agree to collect Rs 1.5 million as extortion money monthly and he gave extortion money to MQM sector Incharge Ijaz Baig after fire.In 2012, sector Incharge met with Shahid Bhaila in the office of Mansoor and said that now millions of rupees extortion money will have to be given to MQM.He said On July 12, 2012, Rehman Bhola was appointed Baldia sector Incharge on the place of Asghar Baig after that one day when we were coming out of factory, Rehman Bhola intercepted us and warned of dire consequences that we should make contact with Hamad Siddiqui for extortion money.

He said Rehman Bhola on behalf of Hamad Siddiqui demanded Rs 250 million extortion money which made us wonder.According to factory owner, they said Mansoor to see the matters of extortion and also said him to settle the matter by giving Rs 10 million extortion.He further said that after that MQM started harassing us upon which we had made a visit to Bangladesh to transfer our business here.He said on September 11, 2012, godown was set on fire and fire brigade reached after 60 to 90 minutes of the incident and didn't have water or instruments.

He said he had offered fire brigades water from his hydrant but they rejected that offer.He said Chief CPLC of that time Ahmad Chinoy through his relative sent a message to us and then staying in the factory was not appropriate further therefore we went to our relatives.He said after we left the factory, MQM workers took control of factory and didn't allow anyone to go in the factory.He said later on an employee of factory told us that when fire erupted then Zubair Charya along with 4 to 5 strangers were consuming hashish while sitting in the canteen.

He said they thought that Zubair Charya was also involved in setting factory ablaze.He said on September 12 a case was registered against us upon the pressure of MQM and Rauf Siddiqui.Within 24 hours our Names were put on the Exit Control List (ECL), and we were presented as Villain and real suspects.He said we attained bail from Larkana and joined police investigation.Arshad Bhaila said that they provided ration to affectees for three years and also did financial assistance of them but when commission was framed we demanded forensic that was rejected.

He said provincial minister for industries and trade of that time Rauf Siddiqui had registered a case against us.We have gained the services of Naimat Ullah Randwa advocate for our case that appeared before the court upon some hearings but he was also killed.Arshad Bhaila said that on June 2013, their uncle was abducted from SITE area. Ahmad Chinoy, former chief CPLC had said us to settle the matters with abductors. He said their uncle was set free after receiving heavy ransom for kidnapping.

On September 13, Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad through Ahmad Chinoy has sent a message to us that we should surrender before police in the governor house.Governor said us if we give compensation to affectees through the platform of MQM then all things will be ok.He said governor further said that if we want to settle the matter then we will have to pay Rs 4, 00,000 for family members of every dead person in the incident upon the platform of MQM.

Arshad Bhaila said that former MNA Salman Mujahid Baloch met him in the jail who said him that matter will be resolved if we hire him as our Counsel but when we got bail then severe pressure was put on us.We have decided to settle the matter through MQM and deposited Rs 5 Caror 98 Lac in the account of suspect Ali Qadri, he disclosed.In September 2012, fire incident happened at textile factory of Baldia at which more than 250 people were killed.In 2015, Rangers in the joint investigation report submitted in the Sindh High Court revealed that MQM was involved in Baldia Factory fire case.In December 2016, one more suspect Rehman alias Bhola involved in Baldia factory case was arrested and transferred to Karachi after making his arrest through Interpol.Bhola confessed that he set factory on fire upon the order of Hamad Siddiqui.
