ISLAMABAD (Pakistan Point News / Online - 11th June, 2019) The first Review session of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) took place in Islamabad on June, 10 2019.Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood led Pakistan delegation while Afghanistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Idrees Zaman led his country's multi-agency delegation in the meeting.The APAPPS which was set up in May 2018 is aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors within comprehensive and structured institutional framework.

This procedure works through five working groups focused on Politico-Diplomatic, Military-to-Military Coordination, Intelligence Cooperation, Economy and Refugee Issues.Foreign Secretary reiterated Pakistan resolve in the meeting that Pakistan wants close brotherly relations with Afghanistan based on mutual trust to the benefit of people of the two countries. The determination was also reiterated that Pakistan was desirous of peaceful, stable, united and prosperous Afghanistan which is at peace within and with its neighboring countries.

Pakistan also laid stress on that objective of abiding peace and stability can only be achieved through Afghan led and Afghan owned reconciliation process.The heads of 5 working groups highlighted the progress made in their respective areas. The Action plans for boosting the existing cooperation among the respective institutions came under discussion. The importance for enhancing linkages in political, diplomatic, security, trade, economy, culture, education and sports and people to people was also highlighted.

It was agreed that APAPPS is the best forum through which the ongoing challenges could be overcome and the bilateral ties could be given a new dimension.It was emphasized that this procedure should be implemented forcefully.To maintain a steady momentum under this structured engagement, it was agreed that the APAPPS Working Groups will hold meetings over the next few months. It was further decided that the next Review meeting will be held in Kabul in December 2019.
