United Ossetia Party Leads Parliamentary Vote In South Ossetia - CEC Preliminary Results

TSKHINVALI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th June, 2019) The ruling United Ossetia party has won Sunday's parliamentary elections in South Ossetia gaining more than 3,000 votes, according to the preliminary results, Chairman of the breakaway republic's Central Election Commission Bella Plieva said late on Sunday.

"United Ossetia party gained 3,276 votes, the People's Party comes second with 1,790 votes, Nikhas party received 1,171 ballots, Unity of People got 1,080, the Communist party of South Ossetia secured 572, Fydybasta (Fatherland) party received 275 votes and the Unity Party got 261 votes. 96 voters chose 'none of the above' option," Plieva said, as quoted by the RES media agency.

According to the media agency, the data was received from 15 out of 77 polling places throughout the republic.

The preliminary results also showed that voter turnout accounted for over 65 percent.

The media noted that final results of the elections would be published within five days by the election commission.

South Ossetia broke away from the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1991. Its autonomy is currently recognized by five countries � Nauru, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria and Venezuela.
