Afghanistan Issues Arrest Warrant For Ex-Afghan Football Federation Head - Prosecutors

KABUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th June, 2019) The Afghan Attorney General's Office said on Sunday that an arrest warrant for former president of the Afghanistan Football Federation, Keramuddin Karim, had been issued.

On Saturday, FIFA said it banned Karim from all football-related activities, including those administrative, for life after finding him guilty of sexually abusing several female players. The organization also fined Karim for over $1 million.

"We have issued the arrest warrant almost one month before our investigation is completed. We will announce the results of investigation after Karim is arrested," Jamshed Rasuli, a spokesman for the office, said.

Afghanistan's interior ministry said that a copy of the arrest warrant was sent to the police, and that they were trying to arrest Karim.

Several female footballers earlier accused Karim of sexual harassment, including Khalida Popal, team director and former captain of the Afghan women's national football team. Back in December, the Afghan Attorney General's Office launched an investigation into sexual harassment claims. The probe has not been completed yet as its prosecutors have been sent to European countries to further investigate the claims.

Karim has rejected the claims, calling them a conspiracy.
