Gazprom Not Obliged To Maintain Capacity At Ukrainian Border Without Contract - Miller

ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th June, 2019) Without a direct contract on gas supplies to Ukraine, Gazprom will not be obliged to maintain the capacity of its gas transmission system on the Russian-Ukrainian border, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said Friday.

"The first and foremost issue is the direct contract on supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine," Miller told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

According to Miller, the situation with the supply contract will determine Gazprom's actions concerning its gas transmission capacity on the Russian-Ukrainian border.

Ukraine's refusal to buy Russian gas "would mean that we will not have any obligations ... The Ukrainian side must voice its decision, we need to hear a clear answer - yes or no," Miller said.

He stressed that the issue of the supply contract with Ukraine must be resolved before the discussion of the future of gas transit through Ukraine.

SPIEF began on Thursday and will last through Saturday. Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency is an official media partner of the forum.
