ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th June, 2019) Russia and China pay great attention to the situation around North Korea, and have to admit that Pyongyang fulfills its obligations, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"The issue of the North Korean nuclear program is very serious and important not only for the region, but for the entire world. I absolutely agree, and we pay much attention to it with our Chinese friends. Of course, I want to confirm what President Xi Jinping said now, the key role should be given to those countries, between which there is a major dispute - the United States and North Korea," Putin said.
"But at the same time, it is necessary to admit that [North] Korea, for its part, fulfills certain obligations: it stopped tests, eliminated one of the test sites there. We hear that the American partners say that 'no, this is not enough'. Maybe not enough, but that's what they agreed on," he said.
Putin called to think of mechanisms ensuring North Korea's security.
The Russian president said he had discussed with Xi on Thursday the situation around North Korea, adding that Moscow and Beijing were interested in denuclearization. He also said Russia and China were satisfied with the implementation of the road map on North Korea.
