French Police Free FIFA Vice President Ahmad After Questioning - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th June, 2019) FIFA Vice President Ahmad Ahmad was allowed to walk free on Friday after being questioned for hours at the French judiciary police's anti-corruption office, local media said.

Marseille prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux was cited as saying by L'Equipe sports daily that Ahmad, who doubles as the head of the African Football Confederation (CAF), was freed without charges.

FIFA, the world football's governing body, said on Thursday that Ahmad was detained at a congress in Paris "in relation to allegations related to his mandate while President of CAF."

Several senior FIFA officials have been sanctioned or jailed in the past years over a series of bribery charges that exposed rampant corruption in world football. FIFA in its statement stressed it was now clean from the scandals.
