Business Community Express Resentment Over CDA's Anti-encroachment Campaign

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News / Online - 07th June, 2019) The Vice President of FPCCI Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi has said that Capital Development Authority (CDA) should conduct an impartial anti-encroachment operation. In an statement issued on Friday he said that the CDA should not only remove encroachments but also pay attention to the beautification of the city and commercial areas, he said.Abbasi said that selective anti-encroachment operations will result in resentment at the part of masses and the business community, therefore, it must be ignored.

The actions of the civic body have raised questions as it is not going down well with a section of the society and traders are blaming the civic body for hurting the fragile the investment climate, he observed. The FPCCI VP said that benefitting some encroachers while hurting other businessmen by the city fathers is not acceptable therefore market committees should be taken on-board before any operation clean-up.Meanwhile, other business leaders including Shahid Zaman Shinwari of ICCI United Group, former president Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders (ICST) Malik Nadeem, Khursheed Qureshi, Sarfaraz Mughal and others said that CDA should conduct impartial operations.

They said that during the anti-encroachment drive the CDA officials are violating stay orders issued by courts of law which is contempt of court.Encroachments in the capital city are not possible unless CDA staff allows it after getting bribes while the whole city has been put on the mercy of a mafia.People have been allowed to encroach upon footpaths, verandas and even car parking in different markets which should be noticed as it has added to the problems of masses, they said. They said that the city managers are hand in glove with the land grabbers as they have never bothered to question the influential which should be noted. The CDA should inform masses that how long it would remain reluctant to retrieve state land worth billions of rupees illegally occupied by powerful people, they demanded.
