WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th June, 2019) The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has become the 80th nation to join the US-led coalition against the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a statement on Thursday.
"We are pleased to announce that the Democratic Republic of the Congo has joined the Global #Coalition to Defeat ISIS [Islamic State] as its 80th member!" the statement said.
The statement gave no details, leaving it unclear what the African nation intends to contribute to the coalition campaign in Syria and Iraq.
On Wednesday, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for a deadly attack in an eastern region of the country affected by an Ebola outbreak. The Islamic State said it had attacked a day earlier the DRC's military forces in the city of Beni, killing or wounding 25 people.
