BUENOS AIRES (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th June, 2019) Argentinians across the country have joined rallies and marches to protest brutal violence against women in the country, local media reported.

On Monday, women and men gathered, in particular, in the center of Buenos Aires, carrying banners reading "Not one less" the slogan of a key Argentine movement to protect women, the TN tv channel said. The movement's activists organize such large-scale rallies for the fifth consecutive year.

Participants of rallies wore clothes of green and violet colors. Green symbolizes people's disagreement with the ban on abortions in the country, while violet color implies fight against violence and is the color of the movement itself.

According to the Women's Office of the Supreme Court of Argentina, 278 women were killed in 2018 on the basis of gender. As many as 56 percent of them died at the hands of their current or former partner, husband or fiance, while 15 percent were killed by relatives.
