GCC emergency summit kicks off in Makkah

MAKKAH, (Pakistan Point News - 31st May, 2019) The emergency Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, Summit kicked off on Thursday at Safa Palace in Makkah under chairmanship of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, King Salman and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, received Their Highnesses leaders of the GCC states delegations.

King Salman received His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain; Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Sultanate of Oman; Emir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In his keynote address, King Salman said that the summit is taking place in the light of the direct challenges that threaten regional and international security and stability.

He said Iran's actions threatened international maritime trade and global oil supplies in a "glaring violation of UN treaties", following attacks this month on four oil tankers in the UAE regional waters and on oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia.
