Qatar To Take Part In Mecca Summits For Greater Good - Foreign Ministry

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) Qatar has put aside its differences with Saudi Arabia and will attend three summits in Mecca out of concern for the region, the spokeswoman for the small Gulf nation's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia, which enforced a blockade on Qatar in 2017, will host Islamic, Arab and Gulf summits on Thursday and Friday in response to rising tensions in the region between Iran and the United States.

"Qatar, which has always participated actively in Arab, Islamic and international affairs, has once against put the greater good of the region before internal differences," Lolwah Rashid Khater tweeted.

Qatar will send its prime minister, Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, to Mecca at the invitation of Saudi King Salman. Tensions in the region spiked after two Saudi oil tankers were damaged in what the US national security adviser said was almost certainly Iran's doing. Tehran denied this.
