UAE launches 'One Million Jordanian Coders Initiative'

AMMAN, (Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2019) The Jordanian capital, Amman, today witnessed the launch of the "One Million Jordanian Coders Initiative," attended by a senior delegation from the UAE, which included Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future.

The initiative was organised under the patronage and attendance of His Royal Highness Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince of Jordan, as part of the strategic partnership between the UAE and Jordan related to government modernisation, promoting innovation and empowering youth.

The initiative aims to make Jordan a leading country in the area of programming by training its youth.

Al Gergawi said that programming is the language of the future, and Jordan aims to develop human resources who have the best technological skills, affirming that cooperation between the two countries is part of a strategic partnership created by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late King Hussein of Jordan, which is being continued by His Majesty King Abdullah II, King of Jordan, and President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Al Gergawi added that the initiative will continue for several years in Jordan, under the patronage of Prince Al Hussein.

"Arab youth are capable of working for the best international technology companies, and we have successful examples in the UAE and Jordan who give us confidence in creating a better technological future for the region. The UAE launched a knowledge exchange and strategic government partnership programme with Jordan, and a series of joint projects will be announced soon," he stated.

In his speech during the ceremony, Eng. Mothanna Gharaibeh, Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, said the launch of the initiative is part of Jordan’s keenness to improve the digital skills of its youth, noting that the technological demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution will require knowledge of the latest technological tools and platforms.

Gharaibeh also expressed his appreciation to the UAE for its cooperation.

The initiative, which was organised in partnership with microsoft, Facebook and bayt.com, includes the creation of a website managed by the "Crown Prince’s Organisation" that offers accredited programming courses to Jordanian youth who wish to improve their digital skills.

The initiative aims to create a better future for Jordanian youth by training them in programming and related technologies, as well as in computer sciences, to empower them, build their capabilities and provide work opportunities.

The One Million Jordanian Coders Initiative was inspired by the One Million Arab Coders Initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.
