Poland's Orlen Expects June 3 Meeting on Contaminated Oil to Be Decisive -Management Board

The Polish PKN Orlen company hopes that the planned June 3 meeting in Moscow, which will focus on the issue of contaminated Druzhba pipeline oil, will be decisive, Daniel Obajtek, the president of the PKN Orlen management board, said on Wednesday

WARSAW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th May, 2019) The Polish PKN Orlen company hopes that the planned June 3 meeting in Moscow, which will focus on the issue of contaminated Druzhba pipeline oil, will be decisive, Daniel Obajtek, the president of the PKN Orlen management board, said on Wednesday.

"We think that there will be a crucial meeting on oil in Moscow on June 3," Obajtek told reporters, adding that the Polish company was still evaluating the damage from contaminated oil.

The problem with the quality of oil coming from Russia to Belarus through Transneft's Druzhba pipeline arose in April. Poland and Ukraine halted oil transit from Russia via Belarus after it had been discovered that the transported oil was contaminated with chlorides. Russia has launched an investigation into the matter and has so far detained four people over the incident.

Russia presented a plan for restoring oil supplies via the Druzha pipeline at a meeting with Warsaw last week, under which standard-quality oil should reach Poland on June 9-10.

Commenting on the matter, Polish Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski said on May 24 that he expected Moscow and Warsaw to agree on compensation for contaminated oil at the June 3 meeting.
