Serbian President Puts Army On Alert After Arrests In Kosovo - Reports

BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th May, 2019) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic placed Serbian troops on full alert after Kosovo police made several arrests in a northern region of the partially recognized republic, populated mainly by Serbs, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Serbian State television, Kosovo police entered the Serb-populated territories in northern Kosovo and arrested 13 locals.

Vucic reportedly ordered a full state of alert for all units of the Serbian army following the arrests.

Addressing the parliament on Monday, the Serbian president said, as quoted by the N1 tv channel, that his aim was to find "a compromising solution" on Kosovo issue, which would ensure the safety of Serbia and its people.

Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. The self-proclaimed republic is recognized by over 100 UN member states. Serbia, as well as Russia, China, Israel, Iran, Spain, Greece and a number of other countries have not recognized Kosovar independence.
