STRASBOURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th May, 2019) Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill on Monday raised the issue of protecting human rights and dignity at a meeting with the secretary general of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland."[We need to put] an emphasis on the protection of human rights and dignity," Patriarch Kirill said at the talks, which took place in Jagland's office in Strasbourg.
According to the patriarch, for people to come together there should be specific grounds since otherwise these connections would become fragile and dissolve.
"The Council of Europe has formed and maintains the basis on which the integration of European countries is possible. And I do not speak about military or economic factors, I mean those relating to human life. People's rights and freedoms are what unite or separate," he said.
He noted that he had repeatedly met with Jagland and fully understands the importance of organizations such as the Council of Europe.
