Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov Says Will Visit Venezuela in Summer

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Sputnik in an interview that he intended to visit Venezuela this summer

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th May, 2019) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Sputnik in an interview that he intended to visit Venezuela this summer.

"The trip will certainly take place during the summer. There are a number of other contacts that are planned between Moscow and Caracas; these will be consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries. Depending on the situation, of course, I will receive relevant instructions from the minister and will act in accordance with them them," Ryabkov said, commenting on the possibility of convening a message from the Russian leadership to the Venezuelan authorities.

However, he did not say whether the visit of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to Moscow was planned.

"I am not ready to announce any plans in this regard," the diplomat noted.

The situation in Venezuela has remained tense since January when opposition leader Juan Guaido proclaimed himself an interim president. Washington and its allies endorsed Guaido and called on Maduro to step down. Moreover, the United States seized billions of Dollars worth of Venezuelan oil assets.

Maduro, in turn, has accused the United States of trying to orchestrate a coup in order to install Guaido as its puppet and take over Venezuela's natural resources. Russia, China, Cuba, Bolivia, Turkey and a number of other countries have voiced their support for Maduro as the only legitimate president of Venezuela.
