Russian Ombudsman Says Russians, Germans Want Easier Travel

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th May, 2019) Mikhail Fedotov, the chair of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, told Sputnik that both Russians and Germans wanted visa rules to be streamlined.

"It's already clear that civil societies in Russia and Germany want the visa regime to be liberalized... Today's discussion showed that everyone is interested in relaxing the visa regime and that there are concrete proposals on how to achieve it," he said on Thursday.

Fedotov spoke after a roundtable in Moscow on outlooks for relaxing regulations for travel between Russia and the European Union. The panelists hailed from Russia and Germany.

The ombudsman said he hoped the two countries would create a working group that would look at ways to make travel easier for their nationals. Proposals to this effect will be discussed at the June panel in Bonn.
