WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) US President Donald Trump's behavior including defying subpoenas amount to obstruction of justice and could be impeachable offenses, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said during a press briefing on Thursday."The president's behavior in terms of his obstruction of justice, the things that he's doing, it's very clear, it's in plain sight, it cannot be denied, ignoring subpoenas [is] obstruction of justice," Pelosi said. "Yes, these could be impeachable offenses."
Pelosi warned that an impeachment would be very divisive for the United States.
Pelosi expressed hope that lawmakers can continue to work to find common ground with Trump.
US congressional committees in the House of Representatives have issued a number of subpoenas against Trump for his financial records or against former White House staff. Trump has repeatedly said they will resist the subpoenas.
The Mueller report found no evidence of collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign with Russia in the 2016 US presidential election. However, Mueller described 10 episodes that may constitute obstruction of justice by the US president.
US Attorney General William Barr said the evidence presented in the report did not offer grounds to establish that Trump committed an obstruction of justice offense.
Russia has repeatedly denied any claims of interference in the US political system, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of Trump's opponent as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption.
