Putin to Congratulate Modi on Indian Ruling Coalition's Election Victory by Phone - Peskov

Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to hold a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to congratulate him on the victory of India's ruling coalition in the parliamentary elections, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to hold a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to congratulate him on the victory of India's ruling coalition in the parliamentary elections, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

Putin earlier sent a congratulatory telegram to Modi in connection with the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the parliamentary elections.

"The president also has in mind to personally express by phone his congratulations to the Indian prime minister. We will provide the relevant report," Peskov told reporters.

In his telegram, Putin expressed confidence in further development of strategic partnership between Russia and India.

The Kremlin also noted that the Russian president had confirmed his readiness to continue fruitful personal contacts with Modi and to work together to develop bilateral relations and constructive cooperation in international affairs.

The Indian Election Commission said earlier on Thursday, citing preliminary results of the vote, that India's ruling National Democratic Alliance, led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, has surpassed the 272-mandate threshold needed for winning the country's general elections. According to media reports, the alliance received almost 340 of the parliament's 542 seats.
