Tulsi of ‘Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ leads against Rahul Gandhi in Indian elections

Smriti Irani is representing right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 23rd May, 2019) Smriti Irani, better known as Tulsi from hit Indian soap ‘Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’, is leading against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the Indian election.

Currently, the lead is of around 9000 votes as counting continues.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been winning effortlessly since 2004 in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi constituency where he is facing Smriti Irani this time. Smriti Irani is representing right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a see-saw battle since morning, the BJP's Smriti Irani is leading.

Gandhi is fighting from two seats, the other being Wayanad in Kerala, where he is leading.

Amethi, a dusty, largely rural constituency around 130 km from UP capital Lucknow, features one of the most watched battles in this election.

Smriti Irani campaigned aggressively in Amethi, where she had contested and lost to Rahul Gandhi in 2014 but had managed to reduce his winning margin to one lac. She kept visiting the constituency regularly over the past five years and virtually stationed herself in Amethi during her campaign.

Rahul Gandhi, his party's chief campaigner across India, hardly went to his constituency. He was accused by the BJP of neglecting Amethi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi looks on course for a major victory in India's election, with early trends from the election commission showing a clear lead for his party.

Modi's BJP is ahead in 277 out of the 542 Constituencies after two hours of counting, more than the 272 seats required for a majority even without its allies.
