UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned a second armed drone attack by the rebel Houthi movement targeting an airport in Saudi Arabia's city of Najran, located close to the Yemeni border, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a Houthi representative told the Almasirah tv channel that the movement had attacked an airport in Najran, adding that an arms depot on the airport's premises had caught fire as a result of the strike.

"The Secretary-General is alarmed by reports of a second consecutive drone attack on an airport in Najran, for which the Houthis have claimed responsibility. He condemns these attacks, as well as any attack targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, which violate international humanitarian law," Dujarric said.

Guterres called on all parties to the conflict in Yemen to remain calm, avoid further escalation of the tensions and engage in constructive negotiations with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths to achieve the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement.

Under the Stockholm Agreement signed in December, the Yemeni government and rebel Houthi movement agreed to implement a ceasefire, exchange prisoners and open humanitarian corridors in Al Hudaydah.

Yemen has been locked in a conflict between the government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebels. A Saudi-led coalition has been conducting strikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request since March 2015.
