This is how mobile mafia is registering illegal mobile phones blocked by PTA

The mobile phones get unblocked with the change in their IMEI numbers.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 22nd May, 2019) The unregistered mobile phones blocked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) are revealed to now being registered by some unauthorised people.

According to a report on Bol news, the IMEI numbers of the expensive mobile phones, that are blocked and unregistered, are transferred to some other person through a software in mobile markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The mobile phones get unblocked with the change in their IMEI numbers.

The tv channel claimed that the local administration and police is aware of this but they fail to take any action.

The report stated that airport security officials are selling the data of passengers coming from abroad to the mobile markets.

The mobile mafia uses this data to register the IMEI of unregistered mobile phones and making it legal through fraudulent means.

Earlier, it was revealed that the mobile phones blocked by the PTA are being unblocked by paying only Rs2,000 to Rs3,000.

These mobile phones were blocked as the government could get Rs30,000 to Rs35,000 custom duties upon their registration.

In a recent meeting of Senate Standing Committee chaired by Rubina Khalid, Mian Ateeq said that people had bought phones from local markets which started blocking after two months.

He said that they were blocked because of non-payment of custom duties. This drive was started so that the government could earn revenue but the blocked phones are being recovered in just Rs2,000.

Rubina Khalid said that the scheme was primarily aimed to curb the smuggling of mobile phones.

The overseas Pakistanis are asked to bring only one mobile phone with themselves but if they are bringing more, they are managed by assigning them to the passengers who don’t bring any mobile phones with themselves, she said.
