MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st May, 2019) The cost of conducting an advanced persistent threat (APT), a long-term cyberattack campaign which typically targets large enterprises or government institutions, may amount to at least $55,000 for hackers, a report by Russian cybersecurity firm Positive Technologies said on Tuesday.

"After analyzing the shadow market of cyberservices, experts of Positive Technologies concluded that the starting price of a set of tools of a financially motivated APT-gang (such as Silence), may amount to $55,000. At the same time, the average damage from a successful attack may reach $288,000," the company said in a report, presented at the Positive Hack Days forum on cybersecurity, currently held in Moscow.

At the same time, the number of cyberincidents involving new types of malware increased by 11 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, according to the company.

Meanwhile the number of ransomware infections over the same period grew by 15 percent year-on-year, while targeted attacks fell by 6 percent to 47 points, the report noted.

Stanislav Kuznetsov, the deputy chairman of the executive committee of Russia's Sberbank said in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the global economy damage from cyberattacks could reach from $8 trillion to $10 trillion by 2022 if the situation remains unchanged.
