MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st May, 2019) The Council of the European Union adopted on Tuesday a directive prohibiting some single-use plastic products, the council's press service said in a press release."The Council today adopted a directive which introduces new restrictions on certain single-use plastic products ... The new rules ban the use of certain throwaway plastic products for which alternatives exist. In addition, specific measures are introduced to reduce the use of the most frequently littered plastic products," the press release read.
The council added that under the new regulations, throwaway plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks, and cotton buds would be banned by 2021.
The council indicated that the newly-adopted directive aimed to diminish the existing amount of plastic waste.
