Qatar is making efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in relations between Iran and the United States, Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi told reporters on Monday

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st May, 2019) Qatar is making efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in relations between Iran and the United States, Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi told reporters on Monday.

"Qatar is always maintaining the peace process and any efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation in the region. Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said in Tehran that Qatar was making efforts, which are followed by the United States," Al-Muraikhi said.

He pointed out that Qatar did not want a war and destabilization of the situation in the Middle East region.

Qatar has been developing relations with Iran since 2017 when the country faced a diplomatic row with most of its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar is also a traditional US ally, hosting the biggest US military base in the Middle East.
