Russian Embassy in UK Advises BBC to Base Salisbury Incident Movie on Real Events

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th May, 2019) The Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom advises the BBC to take the real events and information of the investigation as a basis for a film about the poisoning incident in Salisbury, the embassy's spokesperson told Sputnik on Friday, commenting on the broadcaster's plans to shoot a movie based on the incident.

On March 4, 2018, former Russian double agent Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench near a shopping center in Salisbury. London claimed they were poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent and accused Moscow of staging the attack. Moscow has refuted all accusations. On Thursday, the BBC reported that it had commissioned a two-part drama about the poisoning incident in Salisbury.

"Of course, we will familiarize ourselves with this movie once it is released. At the same time, we would like to advise the filmmakers to take real events and official, trustworthy information from the investigation as a basis for the movie about the incident in Salisbury," the spokesperson said.

He recalled that the results of the investigation had not yet been presented to either the Russian side or the general public.

"Under these conditions, the film risks becoming yet another propaganda tool imposing a political version of the incident, which is not backed by any evidence," he said.

The spokesperson also noted that the Russia would continue to insist that London must provide it with full official information about the incident, as well as reveal the fate of Russian citizens Sergey and Yulia Skripals, who were still denied access to the embassy.
