Qatar Considering Russia's Fan ID Concept For 2022 FIFA World Cup - Organizing Committee

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th May, 2019) Qatar is considering following Russia's example and introducing the so-called Fan ID card for those who will arrive in the country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the organizers of the championship said.

"Judging from the success of the FIFA Fan ID scheme during the championship in Russia in 2018, Qatar is considering a similar solution for fans for the 2020 championship," the organizing committee spokesperson told reporters.

The scheme is expected to allow people from 80 countries to enter Qatar without visas.

"We are expecting approximately 1.5 million fans to visit Qatar during the 2020 football contest," the spokesperson added.

Qatar plans to build a total of eight stadiums and around 50 training grounds across the country for the upcoming championship.

The organizers have said that six stadiums are being constructed now while main works at the remaining sites are expected to be finished in 2020.

The committee said that the government allocated $6.5 billion for the construction projects.

The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.

Qatar is the first ever Muslim and Arab country to host the sporting event.
