Ex-US Army Intel Analyst Manning Ordered Back To Jail - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th May, 2019) A US Federal judge ordered former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning back in jail on Thursday after she refused to testify before a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks, media reported.

The judge sentenced Manning to pay a fine of $500 per day if she does not comply with the court order within 30 days, and $1,000 a day after 60 days, NBC news reported.

"I would rather starve to death than change my position in this regard," Manning told the court as quoted in the report.

Manning said she has revealed everything she knows about WikiLeaks during her trial, the report added.

Following WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's arrest in London this April, US authorities revealed that he had been charged with conspiracy linked to the high-profile release of classified military documents on the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, provided by Manning.

Chelsea, formerly known as Bradley Manning, served seven out of 35 years of the term she received for committing the leak to WikiLeaks before she was released in May 2017. Manning's sentence was commuted by former US President Barack Obama during his final days in office.
