US activists arrested at the Embassy of Venezuela in Washington likely to face criminal charges of interference with protective mission, the legal representative of the Embassy Protection Collective Mara Verhayden-Hilliard told reporters on Thursday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) US activists arrested at the Embassy of Venezuela in Washington likely to face criminal charges of interference with protective mission, the legal representative of the Embassy Protection Collective Mara Verhayden-Hilliard told reporters on Thursday.

US Secret Service and State Department police earlier on Thursday arrested four members of the Embassy Protection Collective, a group of activists who had been living inside the embassy since April 24 at the invitation of Venezuelan diplomats in order to prevent the US and Venezuela's opposition from taking over the facility.

"They have been taken to a police precinct for processing. The charges that we understand are interference with a protective mission," Verhayden-Hilliard said, adding that she has not yet been able to speak with the arrested activists.
