Mattar Al Tayer receives French Ambassador as DSC launch French Sports Events Guide

Discuss ways of sports cooperation between the two sides

DUBAI (Pakistan Point News – 15th May, 2019) HE Mattar Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, received HE Ludovic Pouille, French Ambassador to the UAE, on the occasion of the publication of Dubai Sports Council’s Dubai Sports Events Guide 2019-2030 in French.

The meeting was attended by HE Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of DSC, and the two sides discussed ways to enhance the relationship between Dubai Sports Council and French sports institutions with HE Mattar Al Tayer stressing on DSC’s keenness to cooperate with the French Football Federation and French football clubs.

“France is a friendly country, and it enjoys an enviable position in the world of sports, especially in football where it has won the Fifa World Cup twice in the past 20 years,” said Al Tayer. “French coaches and technical staff, across different sports, have also earned respect through their work in different parts of the world. “The French love their sport and you can see them attending sports events here in Dubai as well. This is the reason we have decided to publish a French edition of our Dubai Sports Events Guide, alongside Arabic and English. “There are more than 270 million French speakers across the world, and many of them live here in the UAE, and the French Dubai Sports Events Guide will be an opportunity for them to keep abreast of all the major sports events happening in Dubai should they wish to attend, or even if they want to organise any event. “The Dubai Sports Events Guide is the first of its kind in the world, with the latest issues giving readers an extensive schedule of the major sports events happening in Dubai in the coming 12 years. Since its launch in 2011, the Guide has been widely acclaimed by international sports organizations and federations.” The Ambassador, HE Ludovic Pouille thanked HE Mattar Al Tayer for the invitation and applauded Dubai Sports Council for their decision to publish the Dubai Sports Events Guide in French. “I am honoured to be invited by Dubai Sports Council for the launch of the Dubai Sports Events Guide 2019-2030 in French,” he said. “This year, the Month of the Francophonie has had a special resonance here in the UAE since the country gained an associate membership of the International Organization of La Francophonie on October 11, 2018. “The UAE has shown increasing interest in French and Francophone culture, and I am pleased to see the steady increase in the number of French speakers in the country. The launch of the French edition of the Dubai Sports Events Guide is a confirmation of that growth. “Through sport, we share the values of openness, solidarity and intercultural dialogue, and I am delighted that the French language will be associated with major upcoming sports events in Dubai through the Dubai Sports Events Guide 2019-2030.” A team of 300 people who speak French will distribute the Guide both inside and outside the country in print and electronic versions to reach sports professionals and French-speaking sports audience around the world.
