UAE Foreign Ministry Says 4 Commercial Ships Subject to 'Sabotage' Near Fujairah Port

The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Sunday that four merchant ships had been subject to "sabotage operations" earlier in the day in the vicinity of the Fujairah port, stressing that the incident had resulted in no injuries and took place outside the port

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th May, 2019) The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Sunday that four merchant ships had been subject to "sabotage operations" earlier in the day in the vicinity of the Fujairah port, stressing that the incident had resulted in no injuries and took place outside the port.

The Al-Mayadeen broadcaster reported earlier on Sunday that several powerful explosions had hit the port, following a huge fire that had engulfed at least seven oil tankers. The government of the Fujairah Emirate then refuted this report, calling on media to use only official sources of information.

Four commercial ships were subject to sabotage operations in the Gulf of Oman, near UAE territorial waters and to the east of Fujairah, the official Emirates News Agency reported, citing the Foreign Ministry's statement.

There were no injuries or fatalities aboard the vessels, and no spillage of harmful chemicals or fuels took place, the agency added.

Relevant bodies have launched investigation into the incident.

The UAE Foreign Ministry refuted allegations that the incident had taken place in the port, calling on the global community to make effort to prevent acts aimed at undermining maritime security.
