Beware! Drivers of online taxi service might be minting extra money from you

Drivers of ride-hailing apps arrested for minting extra fares

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 12th May, 2019) The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four persons for minting extra money from the passengers through fraudulent tactics.

The four members of the group, including their head, were arrested from various areas of Lahore on Sunday.

According to FIA officials, the accused have done a fraud of over Rs20 to Rs25 lac.

They used to take extra money from the passengers by showing them fake fare through a software, FIA said.

While ride hailing apps have provided an easy transport facility to the citizens, incidents of crime also keep surfacing with the users of these services.

Such incidents have raised concerns among the users of ride hailing apps while the lack of cooperation on the part of the service is also alarming.

Recently, an Uber driver in Karachi was arrested for demanding money to return the mobile phone of a female passenger.

On the other hand, the driver of an online taxi service looted cash from a passenger in Islamabad. The driver had looted Fida Haider and went away with the cash. Just as Fida got dropped at Faizabad Bus Stand to get a passenger ticket, the driver snatched his bag and fled.

A similar incident happened earlier when the driver looted a user of ride hailing app on gun point and went away with his mobile phone and wallet.
