UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th May, 2019) The United States has denied visas to several Russian officials who were supposed to participate in the Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in New York City, Vladimir Ermakov, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control, said.
"Due to the unlawful actions of the United States, several official representatives of Russia have been unable to participate in our forum ... This is completely absurd and is an absolutely unacceptable situation with regard to multilateral diplomacy," Ermakov, who heads the Russian delegation to the committee, said at its final meeting on Friday.
The Russian senior diplomat added that Washington was blatantly violating the 1947 UN Headquarters Agreement which required the United States to ensure the unimpeded access of officials from UN member states to the organization's facilities, including the issuing of visas for them.
