MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th May, 2019) Russia will remain the world's top wheat exporter in the upcoming agricultural year, which starts on July 1, and may export 36 million tonnes of this crop, the US Department of Agriculture said in its May review released on Friday.

Wheat exports from the European Union in the 2019/2020 agricultural year may reach 27 million tonnes, while the United States may export 23.5 million tonnes, it said.

Russia's total grain exports in the 2017/2018 agricultural year (from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018) amounted to 52.42 million tonnes, including 40.45 million tonnes of wheat, making it the world's largest wheat exporter.

The Russian Agriculture Ministry expects that grain exports from Russia in the current agricultural year may reach 42 million tonnes, including 37 million tonnes of wheat. Last Calendar year, grain harvest in Russia amounted to 113.26 million tonnes, including 72.14 million tonnes of wheat. This year, the ministry expects grain harvest to increase to 118 million tonnes.
