VORONEZH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th May, 2019) A court in the Russian city of Ryazan has refused to grant the parole request of former Moscow policeman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, who is currently serving time in prison for helping organize the murder of famous Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, Assistant of the Court's Chairman Victoria Shablova told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"[The court] rejected the convict's petition. This means he will continue serving out his sentence," Shablova said.

The parole hearing was initially set for March 13, but it never happened because the plaintiffs were notified of the date more than 14 days after the fact, which went against procedure. The hearing was postponed until April 24 but was canceled again after the defense demanded additional documents.

Pavlyuchenkov was sentenced to 11 years in prison for assisting Politkovskaya's killers, and is serving his sentence in the Ryazan Region.

In June 2014, a Moscow court gave life sentences to Lom-Ali Gaitukayev and Rustam Makhmudov for murdering Politkovskaya. Their accomplices, Ibrahim Makhmudov, Dzhabrail Makhmudov and former policeman Sergei Khadzhikurbanov, were also convicted and imprisoned.

Politkovskaya, who worked for the Russian Novaya Gazeta newspaper, was killed on October 7, 2006, in her own home. Her professional work was considered to be a motive for the crime. Those responsible for ordering the murder have not been identified yet.
