Stoltenberg Attends Security Conference In Southern Turkish Province Of Hatay - Reports

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th May, 2019) NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg attended on Tuesday the southern Turkish province of Hatay, located near the border with Syria, to take part in a closed-door conference on regional threats from the point of view of Turkey, local media reported.

Stoltenberg held a visit to Turkey on Monday and Tuesday. As part of this visit, he held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in the country's capital of Ankara on Monday.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kiran accompanied Stoltenberg during his visit to Hatay, the Anadolu news agency specified. NATO secretary general and his delegation attended Hatay's authority for preventing emergencies and liquidating their consequences.

The conference on regional threats was attended by representatives of all the NATO member states and observer states.

It focused on migration, apart from other things. Abdullah Ayaz, the head of the migration department of the Turkish Interior Ministry, briefed the participants of the meeting on Ankara's fight against illegal migration. He also told them that 320,000 Syrian refugees had been returned from Turkey to the north-west of Syria, where the Turkish military was holding its Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch operations in order to clear its border with Syria of terrorists.
