JOHANNESBURG, (Pakistan Point News - 07th May, 2019) Pan-African Parliament grants FNC observer status The Pan-African Parliament, PAP, during the launch of its second ordinary session of the fifth Parliament, granted observer status to the United Arab Emirates, UAE, represented by the Federal National Council, FNC.

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the FNC, was the guest of honour.

At the start of the session, Roger Nkodo Dang, PAP President, highlighted the FNC’s ongoing communication with African countries, with the UAE leadership keen to enhance their relations, which would serve the common interests of all sides. He also noted the FNC’s reputation as the UAE’s international parliamentary representative while thanking the country for supporting African nations in all priority areas.

In her speech, Dr. Al Qubaisi said that it was an honour to be invited as a guest of honour while representing the UAE and its people at the launch of the PAP ordinary session, which has 55 member countries, noting that the meeting follows the recent South Africa Freedom Day celebrations.

She then thanked the PAP for accepting the FNC as an observer member, which will enable their parliaments and parliamentarians to work together and coordinate their efforts, exchange expertise, and enhance the strategic partnerships between the UAE and African countries.

"Parliamentary diplomacy has a clear role in bringing people together, and we express our appreciation for the first-of-its-kind Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed by the PAP and the FNC during President Dang’s visit to the UAE," Dr. Al Qubaisi continued.

"The FNC has also signed many bilateral agreements and MoUs with the African Union in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, and formed friendship committees with African parliaments. We are implementing these agreements through coordination and cooperation, to strengthen our relations by involving all members of the PAP," she added.

"We must predict the future together through our economic and political relations, and we must care for and preserve our mutual security, as well as the region’s and world’s security.

"The UAE is committed to maintaining peace and building a better world for future generations. Over the last five years, the UAE has led the world in offering development aid, which highlights its commitment to achieving global development," the FNC Speaker noted.

She concluded by highlighting the UAE's efforts across the African continent, "By supporting security and stability and promoting peace among its peoples, as well as achieving overall development, by creating work opportunities for the continent’s sons and daughters."
