US Justice Dept. Invites House Lawmakers To Negotiate Deal For Mueller Report - Letter

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2019) The US Justice Department has invited House lawmakers to negotiate a deal to obtain a less censored version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on the Russia investigation, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd said in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Nadler announced that his committee would on Wednesday morning begin contempt proceedings against Attorney General William Barr after he failed to comply with a subpoena for the full unredacted Mueller report.

"We invite members of your and the Ranking Member's staff to the Department on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 8, 2019 to negotiate an accommodation that meets the legitimate interests of each of our coequal branches of government," Boyd said in the letter.

The Mueller report found no evidence of collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign with Russia in the 2016 US presidential election. However, Mueller described `0 episodes that may constitute obstruction of justice by the US president.

Barr, right before releasing the report on April 18, said after reviewing the facts he concluded the evidence presented by Mueller failed to establish that Trump committed an obstruction of justice offense.

Russia has repeatedly denied any claims of interference in the US political system, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of Trump's opponent as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption.
