WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2019) Senior Israeli officials alerted US National Security Adviser John Bolton about the alleged Iranian plot to attack US targets or allies in the Gulf region, media reported on Monday.Israel's National Security Adviser Meir Ben Shabbat relayed the warning to US officials including Bolton about two weeks ago during a visit to the White House, Axios reported, citing senior Israeli officials.
The report added that an Israeli official said it was unclear what the Iranians were trying to plan or how they intend to carry their plans out, however, Tehran is considering some type of retaliation against US interests in the Gulf due to the US sanctions regime.
The information was collected primarily by Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, the release said. US allies that were possible targets for Iran include Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, it added.
Bolton announced on Sunday that the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force have deployed to the US Central Command region in order to send a message to Iran after it received warnings that Iran may possibly attack US interests or its allies in the region.
Tensions have been running high between Iran and the United States since May 2018 when US President Donald Trump, a long-time critic of the historic Iran nuclear deal, pulled out of the agreement. In less than a year Washington unveiled massive batches of sanctions against the Islamic Republic, targeting the country's finance, transport, military and other spheres.
