53% Increase In UAE Farm Produce, Livestock In 2018

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 05th May, 2019) The United Arab Emirates has recorded a 53 percent increase in farm products reaching the market in the past six months.

Data from the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA, showed a marked increase in the quantity of available farm produce and livestock between the last quarter of 2018 through April 2019.

''The area of organic farms increased to 1.8 million square metres during the same period, producing about 1,116 new organic products for the UAE’s markets, including vegetables, fruits and dates, farms for meat, poultry, eggs and others,'' said Abdullah Al Maeeni, ESMA’s Director General.

He added that organic products provide an ideal opportunity to diversify national investments in the agricultural and productive sectors. ESMA supports this trend through providing issuance conformity certificates to organic farms to qualify these products for export outside the UAE, and to open new markets to UAE producers.

Organic products are highly regarded by consumers and are popular in local, GCC and regional markets. Organic products are grown naturally, without the use of prohibited chemical pesticides.

ESMA grants an "Organic Mark'' on the certificate of conformity to farms, stating that its products comply with the standards of organic products, according to the UAE Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme, ECAS, which confirms their conformity with the technical requirements contained in Ministerial Resolution No. 84 of 2012.
