US Troops Lack Skills To Effectively Handle Humanitarian Crisis At Border - Rights Group

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd May, 2019) The Trump administration's request for billions in funding for extra troops on the US border with Mexico is unnecessary because the military lacks the right skills to deal with the humanitarian crisis, Human Rights First (HRF) spokesman Bishop Garrison said in a press release.

Earlier in the day, a senior administration official told reporters that the Trump Administration has asked US Congress for $4.5 billion in immediate emergency funding to address the migration crisis at the southern border.

"Deploying additional troops to the border is an unnecessary response to this administration's fiasco... The families seeking refuge from violence and persecution need humanitarian aid and a functioning asylum system. Instead they're met with a military response, [and] professionals without the proper skill sets," Garrison, the leader of Veterans for American Ideals, said on Wednesday.

Garrison also accused Trump of seeking to dismantle the entire asylum system.

The move, he added, is extremely detrimental to the morale and readiness of the military.

The Trump administration has said it needs billions of Dollars to deploy troops and build a wall on the southern border to keep illegal migrants and criminals from pouring into the United States from Mexico.
