Turkey's Foreign Trade Deficit Down 67.4% in January-March Year-on-Year - Statistics

Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 67.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) showed on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 67.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) showed on Tuesday.

According to the institute, Turkish exports amounted to $15.5 billion in March, while imports totaled $17.6 billion.

According to TurkStat, Germany was the largest importer of Turkish goods, and Russia was the leading exporter to Turkey.

"In March 2019, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 billion 403 million dollars. The country was followed by the United Kingdom with 855 million dollars, Italy with 827 million Dollars and Iraq with 782 million dollars. The top country for Turkey's imports was Russia with 1 billion 969 million dollars. The country was followed by Germany with 1 billion 615 million dollars, China with 1 billion 405 million dollars and USA with 940 million dollars," the press release said.

Turkish has been trying to overcome a foreign trade deficit for more than two decades, according to the Montana Census and Economic Information Center.
