May Launch Of Russian GLONASS-M Navigation Satellite Postponed For 2 Weeks - Source

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th April, 2019) The launch of the GLONASS-M navigation satellite from the Russian Plesetsk Cosmodrome was postponed from May 13 to May 27, a source in the rocket and space industry told Sputnik.

The satellite has already been delivered to the cosmodrome and is now passing through necessary checks.

"May 27 is set as the new date [of the launch]," the source said.

The source has not named the reason for the launch's delay but stressed that no problems with the Soyuz-2.1b, Fregat upper stage, the GLONASS-M satellite and launch complex had been detected.

The Russian state space corporation Roscosmos has not commented on the issue.

The GLONASS constellation comprises a total of 26 satellites, including 24 operational devices. The satellites circle the Earth at an altitude of about 11,000 miles high, and ensure complete coverage of the Earth and global signal availability. The system provides 24-hour navigation services, including high accurate location information and precise time to users.
