The man befriended women on social media pretending to be a senior government officer and promised them jobs

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 27th April, 2019) While social networking site Facebook has been bringing people closer, it has also become a tool for fraud and blackmail.

In a recent incident, the Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested an elderly man for harassing women on social media.

According to media reports, the FIA in a raid in New Karachi on Saturday arrested the elderly man.

The cell’s additional director said the man befriended women on social media pretending to be a senior government officer. He promising the women that he will get them jobs and good marks in exams.

The accused identified as Jahangir obtained videos and pictures of these young women and then blackmailed them to pay him.

If any of them tried to complaint, he would threaten them by registering false cases against them, the FIA official said.

The FIA official said that the old man has ruined the lives of many women.

The use of social media is common these days. Where it helps in communication at one hand, it also leads to several fraudulent activities. Cybercrimes are on the rise and cybercrime forces have directed the citizens, particularly smart phone users not to trust anonymous people on social media. It is possible that the account is fake and they try to blackmail you.
